Expanding its operations in the production of vegetable proteins, SL Alimentos inaugurated a new production line for plant-based meat analogues in partnership with one of the main companies in this sector in the domestic market.
Londrina, June 2023 - Acting in the supply of ingredients and final products for the main food conglomerates in the world, SL, in activity for more than three decades in the north of Paraná, is today one of the largest whole grain mills in all of America Latina and leads the segment of oats for human consumption in Brazil.
With expertise that goes beyond the products it traditionally helps to bring to market shelves, the group of companies from Paraná, once again, expands its operations by opening paths and possibilities for a new type of industry. According to the Industrial Director, Laerte Emrich : “The knowledge and experience in industrial processes allow us to adapt what we already do, with excellence, to meet the most varied demands of our customers”.
This is the essence of the new project underway in the city of Mauá da Serra. By expanding its productive reality to absorb the manufacture of plant-based substitutes for animal meat, as it already happens in the unit destined to the production of oat-based vegetable drinks, the company strengthens its presence in the B2B market and starts to operate from more extensively in the plant protein sector.
The inauguration of the modern production line for final products made with vegetable proteins, such as hamburgers, meatballs, sausages and ground beef, which took place in May in partnership with one of the leaders in the Brazilian market for similar meat products – represents another step in this direction . “We are going to reach a new market niche, that of final products based on vegetable proteins, while the partner company will take advantage of all our industrial domain to produce with assured quality”, highlights SL's Director of Research, Innovation and Sustainability, Thomaz Setti .
Recognized for its performance under co-manufacturing contracts , for this project SL invested in new and modern facilities within its existing industrial complex. A strategic investment, as according to a survey led by Bloomberg Intelligence , the world market for plant-based products is expected to grow from US$ 29.4 billion in 2020 to US$ 162 billion in 2030. The study also suggests that by the end of the decade this market will have grown up to five times.
For the CEO of the group of companies, Roberta Meneghel, efforts to produce plant-based foods are not only connected to the industries it manages: “The planet demands that we adopt more sustainable behaviors. We need to act with a collective conscience, develop new processes, technologies and align our plans, always looking to future generations and our capacity to produce in a regenerative way”, he concludes.
